During one of his most productive phases, the Pakistani scholar and
activist Dr. Israr Ahmad (1932-2010) composed a short treatise in
Urdu, titled "Islam ki Nash'at-e Saniya: Karnay ka Asl Kam."

In view of its continuing relevance, this important treatise deserves to
be closely studied and widely discussed, particularly by the concerned
and perceptive members of the Muslim ummah. Towards that end, a
detailed commentary on this text is being developed online. Far from
being a finished product, this commentary is best seen as a work-in-
progress. Visitors can expect to see the commentary expand and
improve with the passage of time.

The publication history of the treatise is as follows: The original
Urdu
text was first published in the editorial pages of the June 1967 issue of
“Mithaq.” It was subsequently printed as a monograph, first by Dar al-
Isha‘at al-Islamiyah Lahore and later by Markazi Anjuman Khuddam
al-Qur’an Lahore. In 1980, Markazi Anjuman Khuddam al-Qur'an
Lahore published an
English translation under the title Islamic
Renaissance: The Real Task Ahead
. In 2011, the Islamic Organization
of North America (IONA) published a
new edition, consisting of the
original Urdu text as well as a new English translation.
